Analysis of stardust.

There is a soft voice over throughout the opening sequence, The fact it's and old man talking in old English shows us it is set in the older days even before we see and set or location. The fact there is a voice over shows its a bed time story set up and the film will be an adventure/fantasy film.
The map shows set and location and adventure.
Its introduces characters but leaves mystery and questions.

We are made aware of the fact that it is a fantasy / sci fi because of the diologue spoken by the narrator. For example he uses words such as "philosopher". Other such sayings as "150 and fifty years ago..." help to reinforce the fact that Stardust is a fairytale.

The characters are established early in. The lead male character is represented as a hero as he tries to save the damsel in distress, also the lead female character. This is the typical fairytale character set-up.
The village in which the humans live in is made with dull colours. Characters wear dull coloured, period outfits. This is opposed to the bright colours in the mystery world, beyond the wall.
